How I Got Started Photographing Angels
I was fortunate to have been born and raised in a small community
where my world consisted of running barefoot through the woods and when I got lost, I just followed my dog home. Going
to church was a way of life. You didn't question it. Angels were something we heard about only at Christmas
and Easter.
In order for me to break from tradition and enter a less rigid spiritual
path, I had to first be thrown through the windshield of a car, come out of my body and watch myself being put into an ambulance
as my angels watched over me. And yes, for the first time in my life I was not wearing a seatbelt. It was late
at night in a dessert, and whoever called an ambulance and from where, I can only guess. It had to be an angel! This was before
cell phones.
My car was totalled and my mind and body were borderline, but I believe I came closer to God than I had ever been in my
life. The god I came to know was not the harsh judging god, but one who showered me with a love and compassion that
far transcends anything I have ever felt. This same god sends his angels to watch over us even if we are stupid, (by
not wearing a seat belt).
In the Bible it says that God makes
us to lie down in green pastures (new life?) near the still waters (stream of consciousness?) so that He can restore our soul.
And boy did my soul need restoring! I had been living in the fast lane and was badly in need of
a wake-up call.
Several physical therapies and plastic surgeries later, I learned
the art of yoga in order to keep my body toned and healthy. I also learned the art of meditation where instead of talking
to God, you listen. I learned that if I listen hard enough I can hear His still, small voice.
He never flatters, He never makes deals, He never tells you only what
you want to hear or that you are the only one with all the answers, He never tells you to follow somebody else, and He NEVER
tells you to drink poison or do something equally stupid.
One morning I had a dream I was under water being led by a friend
who is a photographer, taking pictures of the spirit world. That morning I drove to the nearest photography store
and bought a camera.
I drove around for hours looking for something to take pictures of
and finally got lost. So I drove into a cemetery to turn around and there they were - statues of angels, just like the
ones in my dream. That was the beginning of a wonderful new spiritual path which I have been on ever since. You
might say the angels not only got my attention, but captured my heart.
Enjoy!
